Our final post.

Hey everyone check out our video for our final post on Games for ISYS100. Here we will be talking about our team contributions.

End of the Road.

Image
With this post, we come to the conclusion of our blog. Throughout the past 2 weeks we have reviewed games from Stardew Valley to FPS's all the way to saving Earth's oceans. Although most have been positive reviews there has been a couple bumps along the road mainly due to developer issues or a lacking player-base to further expand the series. On behalf of the entire writing team (Sam, Shayon and Kevin), we'd like to thank any of those who took the time to read our gaming reviews; all the feedback were greatly appreciated especially with formatting errors we had in the past.  If you have any queries, please contact us via email: samshaykev@gmail.com Don't forget the gamer code:  Eat, Sleep, Game and Repeat.

CS:GO - The Last of It's Franchise

Image
Counter Strike Global Offensive or as we all know it as CS:GO is currently in its 6th year running. As the 4th instalment of the Counter Strike series following Counter Strike: Source, Counter Strike Condition Zero and Counter Strike 1.6; CS:GO has been through a lot of ups and downs. Each player has a selection between different pistols, sub-machine guns, rifles, shotguns, tasers, heavy firearms such as machine guns, sniper rifles and a selection of grenades, molotovs, decoys, smoke grenades and flash-bangs .  CS:GO has several modes to allow players different experiences which include:  Casual Mode: A 10 CT (Counter-Terrorist) vs 10 T (Terrorists) on any map selected through a voting system.  Arms Race: Each player starts off with the same weapon and with each kill, your current firearm upgrades to the next tier. However if you die you will be demoted to the tier below.  Demolition: With 2 bomb sites, each team plays by "Arms Race" rules however if ...

PUBG is Dying.

Image
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or PUBG was one of the first games to introduce us into the Battle Royale craze, although the hype has seemingly calmed down, it took the world by surprise as it marked a new era of games. So what went wrong? Early this year, the game was at it's peak player count with around 3 million players when suddenly, it plummeted to an average 500k we see today. There are a few reasons to why PUBG has declined rapidly, but the overwhelming reason is due to its competition. PUBG has unfortunately, never addressed many of the issues that exist since its first release. While PUBG releases updates trying to fix these issues, sometimes these updates create more problems and require a patch itself. Meanwhile, it's biggest competitor, Fortnite, continually releases new content that always evolves the game into a different refreshing direction. PUBG has never developed to an extent where the gameplay is refreshing and as a result, players have gotten bored and ...

Devil Daggers

Image
With only one level on offer, devil daggers is a very simple first person shooter game. But that does not mean it’s not fun. The one hellish level consists of a circular platform where you are expected to run, strafe and blast the hell out of your enemies which consist of flying skulls, demonic snakes and other terrifying runaways from death metal album arts. Things start to get overwhelming really fast as the number of enemies quickly tend to pile up and how long you can survive is the main objective of the game. Once you die, you high score will be accessible for the world to see on a global leader-board. There is no end, only survival. - Shayon

Maplestory 2 isn't very fun

Image
I thoroughly enjoyed my childhood playing the 2D sidescrolling game, Maplestory. With anime-esque chibi graphics and large diverse skills to choose from, the game was unique for its time and became a symbol within the MMORPG genre. Today, the game is not nearly as populated as it was in 2009 and many of its player base has moved on, including myself. Yesterday, Maplestory 2 has released its Free to Play launch, and I have decided to give it a try in hopes of reliving my nostalgia of the first game. After several hours of playing, I found myself not immersed and overall, not impressed with much of the game. Undeniably, the gameplay was embarrassingly underwhelming and uninteresting. Despite this, I wasn't completely disappointed with the whole game. The graphics are nice, colourful and new with a large resemblance to the art of the first game. The character creation menu had very intuitive controls and was extremely easy to customise your character, yet the choices seemed to be l...

Ready,Set,Fight!

Image
Tekken 7. Arguably one of the world's most famous fighting games alongside with the Street Fighter series and the recently release Dragon Ball Fighter Z. In every fighting game there is nothing more important than Combos. Learning massive damage combos is a staple for every player although movement and learning to punish mistakes are just as important. With the recent release of the Season 2 DLC, Lei-Wulong and Anna Williams have been released to the FGC (Fighting Game Community) to enjoy and tinker with, giving the total of 41 unique characters as of today.  If you are a Walking Dead fan, it had been announced at EVO 2018 that the notorious Negan and his  trademark baseball bat; Lucille, will be joining the Tekken 7 roster later this year. 3 mysterious characters have also been confirmed by director Harada Katsuhiro however there has been no information released for now.  Season 2 introduces us to a new mechanic known as "Wall Bounce". With each character...

The Identity Project

Image
Games are very good at letting you experience someone else’s life and Papers, Please is no exception. You play as an immigration officer at the border of a fictional totalitarian regime, where you just do paperwork.  Never did I realize, a game about paperwork could be so intense and addicting. Hours will fly by as you check through people’s documents and ensure everything is in order before allowing them access to the country. The joy of investigating a fraud and proving it is an ecstatic feeling but you’ll feel bad at the same time as you hear the pleas of the person trying to get back into their country. It is a game about hard decisions and will keep you engaged for as long as you play. - Shayon

Another Chance of Rain

Image
Risk of Rain, released in 2013 by Hoopoo Games LLC, recreates the traditional 2D pixel sidescroller with chaotic yet satisfying action. You play as a character who crashes into a strange yet desolate world with remnants of past civilisations that have fallen and now inhabited by unworldly creatures that seek to kill you. With overwhelmingly positive reviews, 93% on Steam, the game brought an enjoyable single and multiplayer experience to the front page of Steam for a while. A sequel was announced to release almost 6 years later after the first game and surprisingly, Risk of Rain 2 will be made in 3D. While this is new territory being explored by the development team as this is their first 3D project, the game exhibits similar yet promising gameplay with minimalist graphics to rekindle the chaotic adventure that the first game has brought. Hopefully we can get our hands on copies for the game late this year and relive the mayhem while  discovering new features and gameplay. - ...

Most Popular MOBA?

Image
League of Legends. Arguably the most popular M.O.B.A (Multiplayer online battle arena) game with DOTA2 (Defence of the Ancients) and HOTS (Heroes of the Storm) rivalling for the top spot. With over 140 unique champions Riot Games has offered players a multitude of play-styles you can adopt. Whether you love playing ADC's (Attack Damage Carries) to Tanks or even purely supporting your team with shields and/or heals.  With League of Legends (LoL) constantly evolving (meta), players will be taught on how to build item sets against specific team compositions such as building Magic Resistance against Ability Power champions or Health/Armour against Physical Damage champions. Although the game is very hard to grasp at first, Riot has developing training modes for beginners to familiarise themselves with the game, allowing players to explore the Summoner's Rift and possible combos with certain characters of their liking. As of today, League of Legends is in its 8th Anniversar...

Earth's Oceans Need You!

Image
Stranded on a fully submerged alien world, Subnautica can be equal parts exciting and horrifying at the same time. The game houses a massive underwater jungle gym of claustrophobic tunnels to deep wide arching valleys filled to the brim with curious looking alien lifeforms and gigantic beasts that can swallow you whole.  The alien underwater world has been brought to life with beautiful visuals, a wide variety of flora and fauna and the impressive sound design really immerses you into its world. All in all, Subnautica is an excellent tense survival game that also doubles as a relaxing ocean exploration game with the survival mode off. - Shayon

Super Saiyans and KOs!

Image
Within the expanding market of video games, there is often a genre that seems to get less attention than most others. One fitting genre is fighting games, an extremely niche type of game that only appeals to a few, particularly those who aren't afraid of exploring the heights of a learning curve within the game. There are a few reasons to why a fighting game might not be as popular as might say, an FPS game. Fighting games are usually very competitive, they require a lot of practice to compete within the small player base, and it is all individual skill rather than having co-operative multiplayer.  Despite this, Dragon Ball FighterZ stands out as a unique example to its competitors like Street Fighter and Tekken, that fighting games can be attractive to a wider market.  Besides it's fresh graphics, it's flashy special moves can be easily executed by even the newest of players with a few presses and auto combos are performed by simply mashing one key. Yet the learning...

Society Survival

Image
Unlike most city-builder games, Frostpunk takes the same fun city building formula and switches it up in a good way. You are the leader of a small group of survivors in a grim, cold and dark future where the earth lays covered in ice due to an ongoing ice-age. The game will have you taking tough decisions time and time again, even unthinkable ones that sometimes maybe be necessary to ensure the survival of the community. Not only do you have to shelter and feed the survivors but also keep their hope and morale up, which is harder than it seems. Frostpunk gets intense and always make you second-guess your choices. - Shayon

Light or Darkness?

Image
Guardians. Protectors of Earth's last safe city, Wielders of The Light to defend against the 5 alien races; Vex, Fallen, Cabal, Hive and The Taken. You as a Guardian have the choice among 3 races and classes; Human, Awoken or Exo; Titan, Warlock or Hunter.  As a sequel to Bungie's and Activision's online only Destiny FPS (First Person Shooter), you can explore the solar system as you immerse yourself in a cinematic campaign, cooperate with fellow guardians in co-op strikes, or spar with other guardians within the Crucible.   With Bungie's recent release of the Forsaken DLC (Downloadable Content), players are led deeper into Destiny's lore with additional weapons and unique strikes which are unlocked for players to delve deeper in the history of Earth's Golden Age and the mystery of the Iron Wolves.  What lies beyond the Traveller's Light and it's source of power? Mysteries are yet to be solved with  the truth being concealed from The Gua...

Harvest Season!

Image
With the approaching full release of the multiplayer update, ConcernedApe has brought us a new experience in Stardew Valley, a game where you explore a small town, talk and make friends with NPCs, build your farm and much more. The multiplayer feature has been in beta testing since early August, bringing a vibrant collaborative environment where you can work alongside with your fellow farming buddies. The multiplayer update shares your money with all the players, so the money you own is the amount your friends own. Multiplayer also allows the ability for you and your friends to marry each other, whereas before you could only marry NPCs. With more features continually being added and bugs being updated, Stardew Valley's full multiplayer release will bring a refreshing experience for all players. -Sam
